If I pay full price, is any of my purchase tax-deductible? +

It depends how you choose to pay. Fair value is the trip's honest cost — pay that and it's a normal purchase, so it isn't tax-deductible. If you'd like, you can add a donation on top (our "fair value + gift" option): that gift goes to our Fund — a registered 501(c)(3) in the US and a registered charity in Europe — and is fully tax-deductible. We issue a receipt for the gift amount. In short: the fair price isn't deductible; anything you choose to give above it is, and it funds a place for someone who couldn't otherwise come. This isn't tax advice; we'll confirm the exact figures on your receipt.

Is anything I buy from the Fieldshop tax-deductible? +

Usually not — and here's the plain version. Gear and larder items are ordinary purchases: you pay a fair price and receive goods worth roughly the same, so there's nothing to deduct. Two things can change that. First, if we ever offer an item as a fundraiser priced deliberately above its fair market value, only the amount above that value is a deductible charitable contribution, and we'll state the item's fair market value on the listing and on your receipt. Second, if you buy gear for a genuinely charitable or business purpose — say a company kitting out a funded guest, or a donation of equipment to the Fund — different rules may apply. When in doubt, the clean, fully-deductible route is a straight donation to the Fund. This isn't tax advice; keep your receipt and check with your advisor.

Why the Killary? +

The Killary Fjord in the West of Ireland represents central themes to our mission — Ireland's only true fjord, a long sheltered reach where mountain, river and sea meet, and one of the last places wild Atlantic salmon still run. It stands for what we're for: keeping the wild fish wild, welcoming people of every means to the same water, and staying rooted in the West of Ireland without being bound to it. Read the mission on the About page.

Why do different people pay different amounts for the same trip? +

Because we price by means, not by product. You pay in full, or — with a recent tax return shown privately — 30% or 50% off, or a fully-funded place. Full-payers help fund the supported and free places. See Access for the full breakdown.

How do you verify income for a supported or fully-funded place? +

Privately. We ask for a recent tax return (or, for a fully-funded place, a tax return or a benefit statement). Verification happens off to the side, with care — never on the trip.

Will the other people on my trip know what I paid? +

No. That's the whole point. A guest who pays nothing and a guest who pays in full share the same day without either knowing the other's situation.

What if my place is fully funded — do I need my own gear? +

No. For fully-funded guests we provide the gear and anything else you need so you arrive comfortable.

Do I need any experience? +

None. Most of our day experiences start on dry land, and every trip is matched to your level with a guide at your side.

Can I pay in instalments? +

Yes. Reserve any place with a deposit and pay the balance in instalments.

Still have a question?

Pricing, dates, access — ask anything, in private. Supported and funded requests are handled with care.
